Champion midfielder Patrick Dangerfield says his high-profile move to Geelong will allow him to combine his two great loves - family and football.

The Cats and Adelaide agreed to a deal on the opening day of the AFL trade period - with the Cats giving up draft picks nine and 28 and untried onballer Dean Gore in exchange for Dangerfield and pick 50.

Dangerfield's family lives in Moggs Creek, a small beachside town 45 minutes from Simonds Stadium.

"For me it's combining the two things I love which is family and obviously football, which has been a huge part of my life," the 25-year-old Dangerfield told reporters on Monday.
