Geelong premiership midfielder/forward Mathew Stokes has officially announced his retirement from the AFL.

Stokes was holding out for any potential offers that came his way during the free agency period, but none eventuated at the time.

In 2015. Stokes was told by the coaching staff and list management that he would not receive a new contract at the end of the season and that his time at Geelong was over.

Taken at pick 61 in the 2005 national draft, Stokes managed to play 189 games and kick 203 goals in his ten year career at the Cattery.

Stokes played in both the 2009 and 2011 Grand Finals, but missed out on the 2007 Grand Final victory against Port Adelaide.
